1. Cheltenham Illustration Awards 2016
Using the theme “Tales of Nonsense,” artists need to come up with a visual storytelling or illustration depicting their own idea of a “nonsense tale.”
Submission Deadline: June 1, 2016
Eligibility:
– Open worldwide.
– The student category is open to all full-time students over 18 years old.
– The emerging and established category is open to rising and seasoned illustrators.
Entry Fees: None
Prize: The selected work will appear at the Wilson Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum and on the 2016 Cheltenham Illustration Awards Annual.
2. JIA Illustration Award 2016
This is an annual contest of the Japan Illustrators’ Association (JIA). Though it does not limit artists to any theme or genre, JIA will only accept original entries in (.jpeg) format.
Submission Deadline: June 30, 2016
Eligibility: Open to amateur and expert illustrators worldwide.
Entry Fees:
– 1 image for ¥ 3,700
– 2 images for ¥ 6,900
– 3 images for ¥ 10,100
– 4 images for ¥ 13,300
– 5 images for ¥ 16,500
Prize:
– One Grand Prize – ¥ 300,000, crystal shield, and supplementary prize
– One Judge’s Special Prize – ¥ 100,000, crystal shield, and supplementary prize
– One Holbein Prize – Acryla Gouache 102 Colors, certificate of commendation, and supplementary prize
– Ten Excellent Prize – ¥ 20,000, certificate of commendation, and supplementary prize
– 30 Fine Work Prize – Certificate of Commendation
3. United Nations Political Cartoon Award 2016
Entries for this contest must consist of political cartoons published from September 2015 to October 15, 2016. Artworks must present the value of human dignity, mutual respect, and friendship among nations and highlight the spirit and principles of the United Nations. It will only accept published cartoons that come with a newspaper reprint, and translated into English.
Submission Deadline: November 15, 2016
Eligibility: Open to all professionals worldwide with published political cartoons
Entry Fees: None
Prize:
– First prize – $ 10,000 and a plaque
– Second prize – $ 5,000 and a plaque
– Third prize – $ 3,000 and a plaque
– Plaques for ten honorable mentions
4. Dave Bown Projects – 12th Semi-Annual Competition
Created in 2005, the Dave Bown Projects aims to advance the field of visual arts by doing research, buying works of art, and providing unrestricted monetary awards to visual artists. Though the said contest does not restrict partakers to any subject or genre, jurors look for exceptional artworks that would further visual arts in the modern world.
Submission Deadline: June 4, 2016
Eligibility: This contest is open to all visual artists aged 18 or older worldwide. All styles and mediums are, likewise, eligible.
Entry Fees:
– 2 images for $ 45
– 4 images for $ 65
– 8 images for $ 95
Prize:
– One artist will receive $ 5,000
– Five artists will receive $ 1,000 each
– Aside from the cash prizes, Dave Bown Projects will buy works of art from artists as they receive the submissions.
