CIIT Winners of National Competitions

Students of CIIT SHS Declared Winners of National Competitions

Not because they are young, they can’t get to the top. Jahleen Rose Escala and Victor Jethro Tabugadir, two renowned young artists of CIIT Senior High School bagged the highest awards from two separate national competitions – the National Women’s Month Celebration Poster Making Contest and Resilience Mobile Photography Contest.

Jahleen, a Grade 12 student of Arts and Design, was among the top ten winners of the Poster Making Contest organized by Philippine Commission on Women, with the theme “We Make Change Work for Women”. Out of the 200 submissions nationwide, Jahleen’s artwork, entitled Open Hands Aim for the Highest”, stood out and named one of the bests.  “I almost forgot about the competition because it was my first time to join one, so I was surprised when I received the email about my win. The moment I saw it, I ran towards my Dad to announce the good news”, shares Jahleen.

On the other hand, Jethro, another Arts and Design student from Grade 11, received the news about his win through a text message. He, same as Jahleen, was not expecting for anything since it was also his first time to join a photography competition. Jethro learned about the competition through his Uncle, who also encouraged him to submit an entry. Using his own mobile phone, Jethro photographed a Mother teaching her child about disaster awareness using the NDRRMC SMS Alert. According to him, he chose to submit such photo “to let everyone know that disaster awareness should start at home”. His photo entitled “Be Alert with Text Alert” ranked 1st place in this year’s Resilience Mobile Photography Contest of the Office of the Civil Defense.

Both of these young artists express their enthusiasm to join more competitions in the future to visually express their message across the nation. It has also encouraged them to learn more about their craft and dig deeper in their passion for art and photography. Kudos Jahleen and Jethro! Your whole CIIT family is so proud of you.
